Volunteering
Become a volunteer with DVC
Purpose: To respond to the scene of a domestic violence or sexual assault call so that victims will be given immediate support at the moment of crisis and receive all available information regarding the law, safety options, and available resources.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist victims of domestic violence in addressing their immediate safety needs.
2. Provide immediate crisis intervention and emotional support to victims of domestic violence and
their children.
3. Provide information and referrals.
4. Serve as a liaison between victims and domestic violence services enabling the police officers to
concentrate on their law enforcement responsibilities.
Requirements:
1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
2. Must be able to relate to victims in a patient, empathic, non-judgmental manner.
3. Must be able to relate to agency personnel and community members in a mature and professional
manner.
4. Must complete domestic violence and sexual assault training before taking on-call shifts.
5. Must be resourceful, self-motivated, dependable, and informed on the issue of domestic violence.
6. Must have access to transportation.
Training and Supervision:
1. Must successfully complete Emergency Response Volunteer training.
2. Must attend monthly volunteer victim advocate meetings.
3. Must keep in contact with the Volunteer Coordinator.
4. Must contact the Volunteer Coordinator concerning client contacts and submit appropriate
paperwork in a timely manner.
